Archived: 126 Drivers Cited In Click It Or Ticket Campaign

The St. Cloud Police Department cited 126 unbelted drivers from May 20 to June 2 as part of a Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign.

According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety, more than 350 unbelted motorists were killed in the last three years in Minnesota. In Minnesota, drivers and passengers in all seating positions are required to be buckled up or seated in the correct child restraint. During the St. Cloud campaign one child restraint violation was issued and one parent was cited for child seat violations.

In rollover crashes, unbelted motorists are usually ejected from the vehicle and in most cases the vehicle will roll over them.  In a crash, the odds are six times greater for injury if a motorists is not buckled up.

The Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign is a component of the state’s Toward Zero Deaths initiative.  The primary vision of the TZD program is to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota in which motorists support a goal of zero road fatalities by practicing and promoting safe and smart driving.
