Archived: African Students To Celebrate Cultural Oromo Night

St. Cloud State University African students will organize an Oromo cultural night Saturday.

Student Organization president Solan Tolessa says participants can enjoy cultural dances, poetry and an East African meal.

The event represents African’s rich cultural heritage to other communities around them. It will starts with a speech given by Asmarom Legesse who is an anthropologist and author.

The Oromo is an ethnic group with people from Ethiopia, north Kenya and parts of Somalia. More than 40,000 Oromos live in Minnesota.

The event will take place in the Atwood Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students with an SCSU ID and $10 for non-students and free for children ages 10 or younger.
