Archived: Camp Ripley Is Hosting The Second Annual Winter Warrior Sled Dog Race This Weekend

Instead of the sounds of military drills and target practice, Camp Ripley will be filled with the sounds of barking dogs and racers yelling mush-mush this weekend.

Camp Ripley, near Little Falls is hosting the second annual Winter Warrior Sled Dog Race Friday and Saturday.

The second annual Winter Warrior Sled Dog Race is part of the North Star Sled Dog Club’s competition circuit. The North Star Sled Dog Club started organizing dog sled races in Minnesota back the 1960’s.

Competitors are split up into six or ten dog sleds. The six dog sleds have a 25 mile long course and then ten dog sleds have a 45 mile course they will race to complete.

Last year’s winner, Bob Bzdok of Rice will be back to defend his title.

The race begins at 9:00 a.m. and spectators must show a valid driver’s license at the front gate.
