Archived: Dispatchers Receive Medals For Work During Crossroads Mall Stabbing

More than two months after the stabbing incident at Crossroads Mall, twelve Stearns County dispatchers receive praise for their work that night.

The county says on Sept. 17, five dispatchers were on duty and seven came into work without being called. They knew it would be a challenging night and came to help their co-workers.

Nearly 250 calls were handled in a two-hour time frame. Dispatchers also made outgoing calls to emergency responders and businesses close to the mall about the possible danger.

Twelve dispatchers in the 911 Dispatch Center were awarded with Medals of Merit.

Lt. Bob Dickhaus of the Sheriff’s Office says, “Their determination to keep first responders and the citizens of Stearns County safe during this chaotic and dangerous situation, is the reason for their Medals of Merit.”
