A new study by St. Cloud State University's School of Public Affairs and the University of Minnesota's Extension Service says more than $100 million and 1,800 jobs will likely be lost as a result of the closure of the Electrolux factory in St. Cloud.

Researchers say that estimate is the result of an Emergency Economic Impact Analysis. Economics Professor King Banaian says the loss of 860 jobs at the factory will affect approximately 1,800 other jobs in the Tri-County Area, causing $102.6 million in labor income to be lost. Banaian cites other business partnerships ending and the lack of spending by laid off employees.

Electrolux, which manufacturer's freezers and other home appliances, is looking to close its facilities in St. Cloud by the end of next year.
