Archived: Gov. Mark Dayton Shares Surgery Plans On Facebook

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has been scheduled for surgery in attempts to remove all of the cancer.

The governor posted Tuesday morning on his Facebook page about his treatment decision.

He says, “Thankfully, tests last week showed no signs that the cancer has spread beyond the prostate, which greatly improves my chances of survival.”

Deputy Chief of Staff Linden Zakula says surgery is scheduled for 7 a.m. at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester on March 2. Dayton will be under general anesthesia for about 2 hours, and will spend one night in the hospital.

During the recovery, he plans to be in contact with Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and his senior staff. He expects to be back to a regular schedule by the following Monday, March 6.

Dayton adds about those who have shown support, “You have lifted my spirits and given me both hope and resolve. I am deeply grateful to you.”
