Little Rock Lake Near Rice Drawdown Postponed For A Year

A drawdown of a central Minnesota lake has been moved back a year.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says that the drawdown of Little Rock Lake north of Sauk Rapids did not meet federal requirements. A review by the Federal Energy Commission is necessary for the project to continue, but the proposed drawdown does not meet the criteria for a review.

The proposed plan was to open a dam in Sartell to lower the water level of the river by three feet and clear the lake of algae.

The drawdown will have to wait until next summer due to the work being seasonally dependent.
