Authorities have identified the man that drowned in the Mississippi River in St. Cloud Monday afternoon.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office says 49-year-old Shannon David Shaw of Waite Park was identified through a process with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. Witnesses saw a man walk into the river about 4:30 p.m. on May 7 and swim toward the east side bank of the river. They lost sight of him when he was about halfway across.

The search to locate Shaw took place over two days and authorities were assisted by Tom Crossman, of Crossman Consulting, an experienced sonar array water searcher. He helped locate the victim Tuesday evening.
