Archived: Man Tased Twice After Shoplifting Complaint

On Tuesday afternoon, Waite Park Police were called to a store for a shoplifting complaint.

According to the police report, loss prevention officers told officers the suspect fled from the store. A Stearns County Deputy saw the suspect, 25-year-old Shawn Thomas Lees of Sauk Rapids, near the Sauk River and attempted to apprehend him.

According to police, when a Waite Park officer arrived on the scene, the officer saw Lees fighting with the Deputy and tased Lees. As the Deputy and Officer attempted to remove Lees from the river he started assaulting the Waite Park officer. The Officer tased Lees again and Lees was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for medical treatment.

Lees will be charged with two counts of 4th degree assault and also had a warrant out of Waite Park for a Domestic Assault.
