Archived: Michele Bachmann Announces She Will Not Run For Another Term

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Republicans expect a long line of potential candidates from their party to replace Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann.

State Rep. Matt Dean, a former House majority leader, told The Associated Press that he’s inclined to run and would announce his formal intentions soon. Bachmann announced Wednesday she would leave the seat after completing her fourth term, setting off a 2014 scramble. U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann’s surprise announcement that she won’t seek a fifth term has her opponent saying that she "read the tea leaves."

Jim Graves is the Democrat who nearly beat Bachmann in November. He says he thinks Bachmann heard a message in last fall’s close race. Graves said in an interview on KARE-TV of Minneapolis on Wednesday that voters are looking for someone who has more of a business background and understands the economy.

Graves is a businessman who built his wealth in the hotel business. Graves was planning a second run against Bachmann. He says he has no idea who his new opponent will be.
