Archived: Officer Decker Relatives Arguing Over Donated Money

COLD SPRING, Minn. (AP) – Four relatives of a Cold Spring police officer who was killed on duty four months ago are squabbling over who should control the money donated to his family.

A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says a Stearns County judge has scheduled a Monday hearing to sort out issues between Thomas Decker’s widow, ex-wife and two brothers. The public donated an undisclosed sum after Decker was killed in November.

Widow Alicia Decker says she should get half the money, and the four children should get 12.5 percent each. Ex-wife Rebecca Decker has custody of the children as their mother. She says Alicia Decker and the children should each get 20 percent.

Two of Thomas Decker’s brothers have volunteered to serve as trustees to allocate the funds to the children.
