Officials to Conduct Preparedness Test at Monticello Nuclear Plant
08/17/2009 - 11:30 AM
Residents living near the nuclear power plant in Monticello should not be alarmed when officials carry out a preparedness test Tuesday. Five local, state and federal agencies will practice their response in the unlikely event that something goes wrong at the plant. Officials will be given a scenario at random, and must show they can respond correctly to protect residents.
Field activities will take place in and around the plant. Results of the exercise will be released at a public briefing 10 am Friday at the Wright County Government Center in Buffalo. The Department of Homeland Security requires nuclear plants across the country to do an exercise every other year. They’ll be the ones scoring the exercise on Tuesday.
