Archived: Paynesville School Receiving New Tornado Safe Room

The Paynesville Middle School-High School will be receiving a new tornado safe community room.The new safe room is funded through federal grants secured by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The safe room will be used by students, staff, visitors and neighbors of the school.

The room will be built in the shape of a V with two 60 foot wings. Another safe room will be built near Lake Traverse and will be available for visitors of a recreational vehicle park in the area.

Community safe rooms are hardened structures designed to meet FEMA criteria and provide near-absolute protection in extreme weather events.
