Stearns County Commissioners Planning For Jail Remodel
09/13/2012 - 10:04 AM
A committee was appointed by the Stearns County Board of Commissioners to oversee remodeling and development of the Law Enforcement Center. An architect will be hired to design plans for a short-term solution to the jail overcrowding and security issues related to the facility.
Earlier this year, the Board reviewed a Criminal Justice Space Study Report and directed county staff to; begin preliminary work on a Phase 1 short-term solution to make the jail more secure and safe for 5-10 years, come up with a financial plan on how to complete a long-term solution, and look for land that could possibly house a new criminal justice facility.
Plans for the facility include moving female inmates and work release inmates to the first floor to allow for more beds and reduce the cost for transporting women to jails in other counties.
