Police And Multiple Fire Departments Respond To Hay Bales Fire
01/04/2013 - 11:45 AM
On Tuesday night, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was called to several hay bales on fire on County Road 12 in St. Martin Township.
A passer-by reported the hay bales on fire at a farm owned by 56-year-old James Boeckers of Melrose. The passer-by also noticed someone operating a piece of farm machinery that was moving the burning bales away from the building.
When the St. Martin Fire Department arrived they found that part of the building was already on fire. An employee of Boeckers, 20-year-old Lance Liedman of Melrose, pushed the burning building away from a utility pole with a skid-loader.
The St. Martin and Lake Henry Fire Departments extinguished the fire. Part of the building and 6 or 7 corn straw bales were lost to the fire.
No one was injured during the incident and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
