Prosecutors Ask Judge To Keep Evidence Private

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Prosecutors in the case of a Little Falls man accused of killing two teens who broke into his home are asking a judge to order that evidence be kept private.
Sixty-four-year-old Byron Smith is accused of killing 17-year-old Nick Brady and 18-year-old Haile Kifer on Thanksgiving Day.
In court documents made public Monday, Washington County Attorney Pete Orput says the nature of the case has led to extensive media interest, and prosecutors are concerned that inadvertent release of private data, or release of just some of the evidence, might impede the case. Orput is asking a judge for a protective order that would bar the defense from releasing evidence publicly.
Prosecutors say they have already given more than 500 pages of evidence to Smith's defense attorneys.
