SCSU Joins Emergency Aid Consortium
12/07/2012 - 10:00 AM
SCSU has recently joined more than 30 higher education institutions and other organizations around the world in providing emergency support for Syrian students and scholars. This is in response to the crisis currently going on in Syria.
There are very few resources or programs to assist Syrians at the university level, within or outside the country. An emergency aid consortium, led by the Institute of International Education, has committed more than 1.3 million dollars in emergency assistance to students and threatened academics to continue their work in safe haven countries.
Universities around the world have joined the consortium in which they agree to provide scholarships for students and serve host campuses for professors and senior scholars.
An online portal will be launched in December to enable individuals needing educational assistance to browse available scholarships and apply directly to participating emergencies. The portal will also provide information on online learning options, so students who cannot travel for scholarship opportunities can continue their education during the crisis.
