Archived: SCSU Overall Enrollment Down For Fall Semester, International Student Enrollment Is Up

Enrollment at St. Cloud State University has declined 2.4 percent this fall with a student headcount at 15,092.

The university believes enrollment is down because of a 2.6 percent drop in retention, meaning students are not returning to complete their education. St. Cloud State says this could be because of changing student needs.

Interim President Ashish Vaidya says, “These challenges are not ours alone. We are a reflection locally of what is going on in the broader world of higher education.”

Meanwhile, the university reports this semester set all-time highs for the number of international students enrolled, topping 1,383. St. Cloud State partners with Binhai College in China, which added a 25 percent increase to the university’s finance program.

The number of enrolled students of color also increased 16.9 percent to 2,549.

SCSU serves more than 19,000 students throughout each year.
