Archived: SCSU Students Raising Awareness About Local Homelessness and Hunger

SCSU students studying public relations have partnered up with United Way of Central Minnesota to raise awareness about homelessness and hunger.

On Thursday, April 18 the students in Dr. Lisa Heinrich’s class will wear black t-shirts with the number 258 on them. That number represents the number of children homeless in the St. Cloud School District last year. The goal of the partnership is to spread the word about homelessness and hunger around the campus community, but to also get students, staff and faculty to donate basic essentials to make life a little easier for the families and individuals in need.

The campaign will continue for two weeks, with students spreading out around campus during lunch hour on Tuesday, April 23, Thursday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 30.

Donations can be made at multiple sites around campus including a kiosk in Atwood, Stewart Hall in front of Ritschie Auditorium and the Mass Communications Department Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the campaign.

Items that can be donated include gently used clothing and linens, canned goods, unused toiletries and monetary donations will be accepted.
