Archived: SCSU To Double The Number Of Study Abroad Students By 2019

St. Cloud State has planned to increase the number of undergraduate American students who study abroad to 4 percent of the student population by 2019.

The university has pledged to join the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Generation Study Abroad initiative with more than 150 institutions from 41 states. The IIE has committed 2 million dollars of its own funds to Generation Study Abroad over the next 5 years.

With this pledge, SCSU has set initiatives and programming across six categories:

  • Affordability
  • First-year programming
  • Opportunities linked to academic programs
  • Opportunities to two-year transfer institution partners
  • Marketing and communication efforts to students and parents.
  • External partnernships to support international experience

Currently only 2 percent of SCSU’s student population study abroad, which is only 350 students.
