Archived: SCSU’s College Affordability Scorecard Is Posted

The St. Cloud State University administration says the university scored “quite well” on President Barack Obama’s new college affordability scorecard.

SCSU ranked “low”, on a low-medium-high scale, in the categories of cost and borrowing. According to the report, the average net price (cost of attending after grants and scholarships are applied) of attending the university is $11,344. The report says an undergraduate student typically borrows $13,551.

The scorecard ranked SCSU right in the middle on graduation rate. 48.5 percent of full-time students earn their bachelor’s degree within six years and 1/3 of students transfer to another school.

According to the report, the loan default rate after attending SCSU is 5.5 percent; compared to the national average of 13.4 percent.

President Obama announced the affordability scorecards during Tuesday night’s State of the Union Address. The President says parents and student can use the new tool to compare schools on a simple criteria, "where you can get the most bang for your educational buck."
