Archived: St. Cloud Earth Day Half Marathon Will Come With Traffic Delays

The first major race in St. Cloud will cause some traffic delays over the weekend.

St. Cloud Police say on both Friday and Saturday some roads will be closed or delayed to allow runners a safe race.

Friday’s 5k will delay roads between 6 – 8 p.m. Starting at 6 p.m. Herb Brooks Way from Husky Stadium to 8th Street South and 8th Street South from Herb Brooks Way to 12th Avenue South will be closed to traffic and parking until 8 p.m. The intersection of 8th Street South with 5th Avenue South and 9th Avenue South will be closed for a period  while racers pass through. Drivers can also expect delays around Tech High School during the race.

Saturday’s half marathon will delay roads from 8 – 11:30 a.m. University Drive from 5th Ave South East to 15th Avenue South East, including the bridge, will be closed to all traffic from 8 – 9 a.m. 15th Avenue South East from University Drive South East to 9th Avenue South East will be closed to drivers from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Clearwater Road from Sportsman’s Island Road to 33rd Street South will close to traffic from 8:30 a.m. until about 10:30 a.m. Finally a reminder to slow down around Clearwater Road from 16th Street South to 33rd Street South from 8:30 until about 10:30 since runners will be on the shoulder of the road.

For a complete race map, visit the CentraCare website for both the 5k and the half marathon.

The races will be filled with dozens of racers, so KVSC reminds you to give yourself extra time for travel and to drive slowly for racers.
