A St. Cloud man was arrested Sunday morning after running from a car accident near Lake George.

St. Cloud Assistant Police Chief Jeff Oxton says officers responded to an accident just after 7:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of 7th Street South. A small sedan lost control and hit a tree and telephone pole.

The passenger, Paris Samuel Morman, was hurt in the crash and taken to the St. Cloud Hospital.

A witness told officers the driver fled the scene and was running toward Lake George. Officers found the driver and took him to Stearns County Jail. He is identified as 23-year-old Jacob Nhial Elijah.

Elijah refused to give a blood sample to determine his level of intoxication, so officers got a search warrant. Results of the blood draw haven’t been released.

Investigators believe Elijah took the car from people he was visiting without them knowing.

He is facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal vehicular operation due to the injured passenger, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving after revocation.
