Archived: St. Cloud Man Facing 2nd Degree Murder Charges After Fight Early Saturday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) – Police say a 22-year-old man who was punched in the face after a brief argument on a St. Cloud street has died of injuries as a result of the assault.

Officials say the 21-year-old Travis Johnson of St. Cloud punched Anthony Quinn Shriver in a fight in around 2:30 a.m. early Saturday morning. Johnson is in the Stearns County Jail. Authorities say Shriver, who is from Waconia, was walking with friends about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when they encountered several men.

Shriver was punched in the face after short verbal dispute. Police arrested the suspect, who was later released. Shriver complained of a headache, but refused medical treatment and went home with his friends. Around noon that day Shriver was found unresponsive at his home and died.

An autopsy determined Shriver died of trauma consistent with the assault. Johnson was once again taken into custody.

St. Cloud Police are asking for any witnesses to the assault that took place at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 7th Street South to contact them at 320-251-1200.
