Archived: St. Cloud Man Who Turned Himself Into Police Indicted On Murder Charges

A St. Cloud man who turned himself in to police after killing a woman because God told him to has been indicted on murder charges.

The Stearns County Attorney’s Office says 38-year-old Daniel Walter Kenning was indicted on charges of first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree intentional murder on Wednesday.

Kenning had previously been charged with second-degree intentional murder . He remains in police custody with an unconditional bail of $2,000,000 and a conditional bail of $1,000,000.

On October 17, just a week before the indictment, Kenning was ordered to submit to a psychological evaluation, which would suspend his charges. His first court appearance on his charges would come after he’s deemed fit to stand trial.

Kenning turned himself in to the St. Cloud Police Department on September 29 after telling them that he had murdered a woman at his house. During the following investigation, he told authorities he had tied and handcuffed 45-year-old Jennifer Lee Moy to a table before strangling her. He claimed God told him that he "needed to kill someone and that he would be able to resurrect them."

Future court dates, if they’re ever set, would be available on the Stearns County Attorney’s Office Criminal Case Search website. If Kenning is convicted for his first-degree murder charge, he would serve a life sentence.
