Archived: Stearns County Receives Two Legacy Small Grants
Thirty-six recipients have been announced by the Minnesota Historical Society for awards up to $10,000, and two awards are being granted in Stearns County.
The society says more than $310,000 was given out as Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Small Grants throughout 19 counties in the state.
In Stearns County, the City of St. Cloud received $10,000 to hire a qualified historian who will work to designate four sites around town as historic locations. St. Cloud State University got $9,000 for research of the cultural history of the school. The money will also be used to hire a historian.
Grant money is possible through the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund passed by voters in 2008. It is meant to preserve Minnesota land, water and history.
