Archived: Storage Building Behind St. Martin Gas Station Goes Up In Flames

A storage shed went up in flames behind a Cenex gas station in St. Martin on Thursday.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says their Office Communication Center was notified of a building on fire behind the gas station just before 4:30 a.m. Deputies arrived to find a storage shed in flames on the north side of the co-op property.

St. Martin Fire and Rescue, the Lake Henry Fire Department, and the Albany Fire Department helped to extinguish the flames. This effort prevented several nearby fuel tanks from exploding.

Deputies talked with an employee, who said the west half of the building was used as a maintenance shop, while the east half was storage for seed corn.

The building was completely lost. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation.
