A BB gun was found in a student’s backpack at Apollo High School on Wednesday.

St. Cloud Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Oxton says just after 11 a.m. the St. Cloud Police Department School Resource Officer received information through a Snapchat video that had circulated around the school that suggested a student was in possession of a handgun.

The student who posted the picture was identified. The school then went into lockdown while staff apprehended the student, who was still in the school.

Staff found an unloaded BB gun in the student’s backpack and found no BBs in the student’s possession. The student said he was only transporting the BB gun and police found no other motive to have the gun.

The student was then turned over to his parents and the Stearns County Attorney’s Office is reviewing potential charges.

No one was hurt during the incident.
