Archived: Team USA And Bob Motzko Take Gold

The under-20 USA Hockey team defeated Canada Thursday night to take gold in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Junior Championship.

The team, coached by St. Cloud State University’s own Bob Motzko, defeated Canada 5-4 in a shootout. More than 20,000 fans packed the arena in Montreal  to watch the championship game. Team USA previously defeated Russia, and now that they’ve taken gold over Canada, they’ve earned America’s fourth title since the tournament began in 1977.

Motzko says there was something special about this group of guys, and he noticed it from the beginning when they met for hockey camp last summer in Michigan.
