Archived: The First African American – Openly Transgender Elected Official Will Speak At SCSU

St. Cloud State University’s Women on Wednesdays will feature the first African American-openly transgender candidate elected to office.

University Spokeswoman Anna Kurth says Minneapolis City Council member and Vice President Andrea Jenkins will come to SCSU to share her story. Jenkins won her seat in November of 2017 and was selected by peers to serve as vice president.

Jenkins advocates for curbing Youth violence, improving neighborhoods, police-community relations and much more. The councilwoman will share her story of trans-activism, racial equity and social justice advocacy from the success of her bid for office.

Jenkins will speak on April 4, starting at noon in the Atwood Theatre.
