Archived: Vehicles Fall Through ice on Great Northern Lake Near Cold Spring Saturday

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office released two reports of vehicles going through the ice over the weekend on Great Northern Lake, which is located near Cold Spring. The Sheriff’s office was alerted at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday that an ATV crashed through the ice as well as a snowmobile that was reported about 4:15 p.m.

Forty-two-year old Bryce Eggert of Arlington was driving an ATV and carrying a passenger as they went through the ice. A homeowner witnessed the accident and helped both people to safety. The second accident involved 39-year old Travis Luepke who was on his snowmobile. His sled went through the ice a short time later. He is a family member of the two that went through earlier in the day and was looking for them. Everyone was able to make it out of the water.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office reminds everyone to be safe on the ice especially after the recent warm conditions.
