Watch Out for Phone Scam
07/31/2009 - 12:00 PM
The St. Cloud Police Department is asking the public to be aware of a telephone scam where the caller impersonates an actual member of the St. Cloud Police Department.
In the scam, the caller asks the potential victim to provide upfront money to claim a large cash prize. In one particular instance, an elderly woman was asked to send $3,000 dollars to Canada so she could receive a $300,000 cash prize that she had won. The caller even asked the woman to contact the police department to verify that he was an employee and legitimize the scam.
The police department is asking the public to contact the police station if you receive a similar call.
