An 83-year-old Holdingford man is injured after driving his car off the road just southeast of his hometown. It happened at noon on Monday. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department says Herman Sobania was driving north on County Road 151, near 405th Street, when he veered off the road to the right and hit some signs and fencing. Sobania was brought to the St. Cloud Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

A 61-year-old St. Cloud man was arrested this morning for selling methamphetamine from his home. After receiving information that Charles Johnson was selling meth, investigators conducted controlled purchases from Johnson. Tuesday morning, officers searched Johnson’s home, on the 400 block of 22nd Avenue North, and found 19.2 grams of crystal meth.
Johnson was arrested and brought to the Stearns County Jail, where he is being held for possession and sale of a controlled substance. Police expect more arrests from this investigation.

A free presentation about America’s leading learning disability will take place tonight in St. Cloud. The Calvary Community Church at 1200 Roosevelt Road will host international reading expert Susan Barton from 5:30 to 8:30. Barton, the founder of Bright Solutions and Barton Reading and Spelling System, will discuss the traits of dyslexia and how to effectively educate those with it.
Dyslexia affects 20% of the population and accounts for over 80% of learning disabilities.

A three car crash on Monday morning sent a pair to the hospital with injuries. Just before 10:30 am on Highway 23 and Cooper Avenue South, a car driven by a 23-year-old St. Cloud man rear-ended a vehicle. That car then crashed into a third car driven by 56-year-old James Ivory of St. Cloud. Both Ivory and his 39-year-old passenger, Octavia Brown, were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

For one dollar a throw you’ll have the chance to dunk a sorority member while helping residents at the shelter. The event is being held Thursday from 10a.m. to 5p.m.

A St. Cloud man was arrested on 3rd and 5th degree assault charges after a fight that sent one man to the hospital.
The incident happened just before 2:00 am Sunday on the 3300 block of 3rd Avenue North. According to Police, witnesses at the scene stated that Ramirez had assaulted two men. One of the victims was a 28-year-old from Richmond who suffered a broken ankle and was transported to the hospital. A 26-year-old from St. Cloud also suffered minor injuries from the assault.

A St. Cloud State Student was allegedly robbed at gunpoint near campus Saturday. The incident happened at the 800 block of 5th Avenue South at 11:00 pm. Police say two men approached a 19-year-old male student from St. Cloud with a handgun and demanded money. One suspect was described as a black man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 140 pounds in weight and clean shaven. He was wearing a long blue t-shirt and dark colored shorts. The other suspect was described as a black man between the ages of 18 and 23, 6 feet tall and about 185 pound in weight. He was wearing a white tank top and plaid shorts. No one was hurt and anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Cloud Police at 320-251-1200.

St. Cloud Police have located the driver and gunman involved in the hit and run that resulted in shots fired last Thursday night. St. Cloud Police were called to the 10-hundred block of Saint Germain Street East at around 11:00 pm and found a 33-year-old man who had been hit by a truck.
As the truck was driving away, witnesses heard gunshots fired. No one was hurt. Police say the shooting suspect is a 15-year-old relative of the man who was hit by the truck. Sergeant Marty Sayre of the St. Cloud Police Department says ultimately, charges will be filed, but he says they’re still seeking unbiased witnesses who can shed light on whether shots were fired before or after the man was hit. Five people are injured after a car hit a power pole on the side of the road north of St. Joseph. It happened just after 1:00 Sunday afternoon on County Road 2 near the intersection of 360th Street, about five miles north of St. Joseph. 31-year-old Rodaliza Walsh, of Maynard, was driving southbound on County Road 2 when she lost control of the car, ran it off the road, and hit a power pole. Walsh and the other four people in the car suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Beginning Monday at 6:00 pm, 9th Avenue will be closed from St. Germain Street to 4th Street South for construction work on the Lake George Bridge. This part of road will reopen the next day, Tuesday at 5:30 am. This closure will occur again from 6:00 pm Tuesday to 5:30 am Wednesday.

A one car crash on Sunday afternoon in Holdingford resulted in injuries for the driver. 51-year-old Donald Vernon Voller of Holdingfield was driving northbound on Main Street when his pickup truck left the road and hit several trees.
The Stearns County Sherriff’s Office and Holdingford Fire and Rescue were called to the scene just after 1:30 P.M. and took the injured driver to St. Cloud Hospital.

The unemployment rate in the St. Cloud area fell for the second month in a row. The rate for August is 7.4%, down from 7.7% in July. The June unemployment rate was an alarming 8.3%, making for an impressive two month drop of almost a full percentage point.
But there’s still work to be done. The St. Cloud area’s current unemployment rate of 7.4% is still 1.8% higher than it was one year ago.

Police were in full force Friday in St. Cloud. Officers performed special traffic enforcement between the hours of 11:00 am and 8:00 pm. 35 stops were made, resulting in 18 citations and 17 warnings issued. The traffic stops were made for various violations including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and expired tabs.

A 38-year-old St. Cloud man was arrested for allegedly abusing an infant boy. St. Cloud Police got the call at around 9:00 Wednesday night and responded to the 200 block of 19th Avenue North. Officers found the 4-month old with bruises on his wrist, thigh, foot and stomach. The child was brought to the hospital, where officers were told the bruises were indicative of child abuse. Officers arrested 38-year-old Lawrence Schumacher of St. Cloud for malicious punishment of a child.
