Delays Expected On Waite Avenue When Road Work Starts

Drivers taking Waite Avenue in St. Cloud should expect minor delays for at least a month.

The City Engineer's Office says that road maintenance work will be starting on Waite Avenue from 2nd Street South to Wellington Circle. While traffic will be maintained, delays are expected.

The road work will begin on Friday, July 20 and is expected to last through August.

Minnesota State Patrol Looking For Witnesses To Sartell Crash

Authorities are looking for anyone that witnessed a crash near Sartell on Wednesday.

Minnesota State Patrol Sergeant Jesse Grabow says the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 1. This is the intersection in front of the Super Walmart on the west side of the Mississippi River. They say a SUV was driving east on County Road 1 while passing Highway 15 when it collided with a car turning south onto the highway. 

The only occupant of the SUV and the two occupants in the car were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with minor injuries.

Sartell Park Commission To Discuss Survey Results At Next Meeting

The Sartell Park Commission is coming together to discuss the results of a survey about a local park.

Sartell's City Planner Nate Keller says that the discussion about Creekview Preserve will come immediately after the previous meeting is approved. Updates from the Public Works Department and overall updates from the city are expected to follow.

A survey was conducted by the commission about what needed to be improved at the park from July 3rd to July 17th. One-hundred and thirty-one responses were recorded, and 36% of them said that they have not visited the park because it doesn't have the amenities they need.

The meeting will be held at the park on July 24th from 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. when there will be a community conversation with residents.

Two People Sent To Hospital After Woman Runs Red Light

Two people in Big Lake were sent to the hospital Tuesday night after a woman ran a red light.

Minnesota State Patrol Sergeant Jesse Grabow says just before 8:30 p.m. 18-year-old Kayla Wesley of Big Lake was driving east on Highway 10 when she made a left turn on a red arrow onto County Road 81. 38-year-old Jesse Kipka of Foly was driving west on 10 when he struck Wesley on the side.

Wesley then rolled her car into 58-year-old Scott Davis of Big Lake who was stopped at the red light on County Road 81. The car rolled until it came to a rest on the roof.

Wesley was taken to Monticello Hospital and Kipka was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for their non-life threatening injures, Davis was uninjured.

Great Northern Theatre Company To Perform Annie At Rocori High School

The famous musical Annie is coming to Cold Spring.

The Great Northern Theatre Company says that the production for their summer musical involves over 100 people. Katharine Lathe will play the lead role of Annie, while Mitchell Hurle plays the billionaire Oliver Warbucks.

The musical tells the tale of a girl who escapes the orphanage she grew up in to look for her parents. She finds her way to Warbucks' mansion, where she discovers a new family.

The show will be performed at the Glanville Smith Auditorium at Rocori High School on August 3rd-5th and August 9th-12th. Rush-seat options will be available for opening night. Evening performances will start at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m. For tickets, go to the theatre website or call (320) 241-4682. 

Dayton Visits Minnesota Cities Hit Hard By Flooding

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton is visiting more Minnesota cities wracked by recent flooding.

Dayton was scheduled to tour flood and storm damage in Mora and Carlton Monday. He'll be joined by Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Joe Kelly and other state and local officials.
It's his latest trip to survey extensive damage across the state due to storms, flash flooding, high winds and tornadoes that began June 9. Dayton declared a state of emergency earlier this month for 36 counties and the Red Lake reservation.
Dayton previously visited several towns in southwestern Minnesota. He and Minnesota officials have started the process to secure federal aid for disaster response. Minnesota could qualify for federal aid if the federal government finds more than $7.7 million in damages statewide.

Metro Bus Drivers Place High In State

A St. Cloud Metro Bus driver placed first in the Minnesota State "Roadeo" in Duluth.

Metro Bus says that Dial-A-Ride bus operator Todd DeZurik took first place in the small bus division out of 26 drivers. He is now qualified to compete at the national level in 2019. DeZurik placed third nationally last month after winning the state "Roadeo" last year. 

Other local winners include Dial-A-Ride driver Chris Osmek, who placed 6th in the small bus division. Fixed Route drivers Mike Keller and Jerry Schmitz placed sixth and seventh in the large bus division.

Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation To Accept Applications For Award Ceremony

A development service in St. Cloud will be giving out $4,000 worth of rewards this fall.

The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation (GSDC) says that non-profit organizations and for-profit companies are eligible for the 2018 Innovation Awards. The corporation will give away four GDSC Awards worth $1,000 each.

The awards will go to one up-and-coming for-profit company, one established for-profit company, and two non-profit organizations.

Applications and nominations for the awards are open through July 31. The awards will be presented at a meeting of GDSC investors on November 1.


Crash On County Road 26 Sends Man and Turkeys Rolling Into Ditch

A crash Saturday morning on County Road 26 caused one man to roll his truck with hundreds of baby turkeys.

Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson says just before 7 a.m. 25-year-old William Anderson of Vining was driving on County Road 26 when he did not stop for a stop sign. Anderson then hit 42-year-old Lisa Lenarz of Elrosa. Anderson rolled into the west ditch of County Road 26, carrying 17,100 baby turkeys in crates.

Anderson and Lenarz both had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the Sauk Centre Hospital for treatment.

Crooked Pint Ale House To Open Waite Park Location

A Midwest restaurant franchise famous for their "Juicy Lucy" burger is opening a location in Waite Park.

Crooked Pint Ale House says that the new restaurant is located at 58 Division Street. The new location is the 11th in the franchise's history and its 8th Minnesota location.

The restaurant offers 32 types of craft beers and nearly 60 choices of lunch and dinner on the menu. It won USA Today's Reader's Choice Award for Best Juicy Lucy in Minnesota.

The restaurant will open on Thursday , July 19 at 11 a.m.


Highway 12 Near Cokato and Howard Lake To Start Major Project

Drivers on Highway 12 west of the Twin Cities should expect delays as the highway starts a major project.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that resurfacing will be done on the highway from sunrise to sunset in between Cokato and Howard Lake. Flaggers will allow one-way traffic to alternate through work zones. Delays are expected to be 15 minutes at peak travel times.

The work is for a major project that will improve a five-mile stretch of Highway 12. It will hope to extend the life of the road while also upgrading guardrails and restriping a segment of the highway.

The project begins on Tuesday, July 24 and all lanes will be open again in mid-August. During this time, drivers entering work zones should be prepared to stop or slow down and give crews space to work.

7th Street South Near 9th Avenue To Undergo Road Work

Drivers planning to use 7th Street South should expect minor delays.

The St. Cloud City Engineer's Office says that road maintenance work will be done on 7th Street South from 9th Avenue South to Washington Memorial Drive. Traffic will be maintained, but drivers should expect delays around that stretch of road.

The road work begins on Friday, July 20 and is expected to last one day.

Youth Development Organization 4-H To Hold A

A central Minnesota youth development organization is holding a party to fund their programs.

Natalie Keane of Sprout Marketplace says that the Crow Wing County 4-H will be hosting a "Party with Purpose," an event that includes food and donations in support of an organization.

The party's proceeds will go to the Minnesota 4-H Youth Development Program, which allows children and teenagers to have learning opportunities that help them grow into a productive and active citizens in the community.

The event is sponsored by Sprout, ArtPlace America, and the Region Five Development Commission. Traditional Native American food will be made by the 4-H youth and their family to showcase foods such as wild rice and smoked fish.

The party will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at Sprout Growers and Makers Marketplace in Little Falls from 6 p.m-8 p.m.


Wrong-Way Driver In Waite Park Crash Charged With Vehicular Homicide

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - An alleged wrong-way driver is charged in a crash that killed two men test-driving a vintage car in central Minnesota.
Twenty-eight-year-old Charlie Barnett is charged with two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
The crash happened Monday evening in Waite Park when authorities say the car Barnett was driving crossed the median and hit a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino head-on, killing the occupants - 61-year-old Richard Tomlinson of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, and 77-year-old Roger Nelson of Clearwater. Police say Tomlinson was considering buying Nelson's El Camino.
According to court records, an aerosol can of dust cleaner was found on the driver's side floor of where Barnett had been sitting. Investigators learned later Barnett has a history of huffing dust cleaner.
Barnett is due back in court July 23.

Coborn's On Cooper Avenue To Hold Re-Opening Ceremony After Remodeling

A St. Cloud grocery store is holding a re-opening ceremony after remodeling.

Coborn's Inc. says that the store on Cooper Avenue will hold a celebration for a finished remodeling project that marks the store as a "next-generation" grocery store. This is the sixth Coborn's store to become "next-generation." 

The remodeling project has added The Kitchen, an area where entrees such as sandwiches and pizza are packaged in-store for at-home preparation. The store will also be adding a Chop Shoppe that will cut fruits and vegetables before leaving the store and an online shopping feature.

The event will start with a short program followed by a ribbon cutting. Many people will speak at the event, including Coborn's President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board Chris Coborn. 

The celebration will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 11 a.m. Dunn Brother's Coffee will be offering samples from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. The store will be offering samples themselves from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
