09/13/2010 - 12:30 PM
It was another successful weekend for the St. Cloud State volleyball team as they won three of their four matches at the Nebraska-Kearney Fall Classic.
Friday night saw the Huskies win two matches in very convincing fashion. SCSU defeated Newman University 3-1 and Mesa State by a 3-1 score as well. Day two of the tournament started off with the Huskies sweeping Quincy University 3-0 but then they ran into a tough test in the host-school, Nebraska-Kearney. The seventh ranked Lopers took down the Huskies in straight sets to hand SCSU their first loss of the tournament.
Senior captain Ashley Shields had a impressive weekend offensively with 33 kills in four matches, fellow captain Kayla Tschida finished with 29 kills and setter Jen Waterman recorded an amazing 138 set assists.
The Huskies are now 5-3 overall on the season and will start off their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Schedule with a matchup at the University of Mary on Friday, September 17th.
