Benik
The SCSU Men’s Hockey team took a big hit less than week before the season begins after freshman Joey Benik broke his leg in the team’s first official practice. Benik, a graduate of St. Francis High School broke his leg early in Saturday morning’s practice while skating with Ben Hanowski and Drew LeBlanc. Last season, Benik played for British Columbia Hockey League’s Penticton Vees, and amassed 114 points in 75 games. Although it is unclear just how much time Benik will miss, his injury will not require surgery.
