The St. Cloud State men’s hockey team suffered their first road loss of the season over the weekend in Denver. They also saw their undefeated on Saturday streak end.
The Huskies started off the weekend defeating the Pioneers 6-3 Friday night tying the team record for the most consecutive road victories. Denver scored at the 1:44 mark of the first period to take 1-0 lead but SCSU would only take about six minutes to tie the game at 1-1 thanks to a goal by Jimmy Murray. From there the Huskies never looked back, adding two more goals in the second period by Andrew Prochno and David Morley. At the end of the second period the score favored the Huskies 2-1. The offense was not complete for the Huskies scoring three goals in the third period off the sticks of Nic Dowd and Jonny Brodzinski on the power play, Brodzinski also added an even strength goal. The Pioneers netted a goal with 59 seconds to make it a 6-3 final score.
SCSU wasn't able to keep the nine game road win streak going as they fell 5-2 Saturday night despite outshooting the Pioneers 37-21. Freshman Charlie Lindgren got the start in net for the Huskies, it was the third time he saw game action this season. Lindgren recorded nine saves on 13 shots before seasoned veteran Ryan Faragher entered the game in relief. Jonny Brodzinski and Jimmy Murray scored the goals for SCSU.
