Although the 2009-2010 Men's Hockey Team has yet to hit the ice this year, the team is already receiving national attention. The team was just ranked 13th in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey poll released earlier this week.
The Huskies were also picked to finish 5th in the WCHA according to a WCHA Coaches and Media Poll. Picked to finish ahead of SCSU in both the coaches and media poll were Denver, North Dakota, Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota.
In the national USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey poll Denver was picked 2nd, University of Minnesota was 6th, North Dakota 8th and Wisconsin 14th. Others receiving votes in the WCHA were Minnesota-Duluth and Colorado College.
Aside from the team, Husky players Ryan Lasch and Mike Lee also got pre-season recognition. Senior forward, Ryan Lasch was selected as the WCHA preseason Player of the Year while freshman goalie Mike Lee was picked as the Freshman Player of Year.
Lee, Lasch and the rest of the SCSU squad hit the ice this Sunday against the University of Lethbridge in exhibition play at 5:07 p.m. Tune into KVSC at 4:45 for pre-game coverage of the game and then listen live for Lethbridge and Husky Hockey.
