The St. Cloud State Men's Hockey team entered this past weekend one point behind North Dakota in the WCHA standings. The two teams squared off in a series at the National Hockey Center this weekend, both teams earned a win in a series split, keeping North Dakota just ahead of SCSU. St. Cloud took Friday's game 3-1, and North Dakota responded with a 3-2 win Saturday.
St. Cloud collected goals in Friday's win from Cory Thorson, Jarrod Rabey and Jared Fester, and goaltender Ryan Faragher was spectacular in goal stopping 41 UND shots. North Dakota has not won the first series of a game in St. Cloud since 1998.
Saturday saw North Dakota jump out to a 3-1 lead in the second period over the Huskies thanks to a pair of Corbin Knight goals. The Huskies responded back with David Eddy's sixth goal of the season in the second period to make it a one goal game.
The Huskies mounted a furious comeback attempt in the final minute of the game, and sent the crowd into a frenzy when it appeared they had scored to tie the game with 30 seconds to play. However the play was reviewed, and video replay determined Ben Hanowski kicked the puck into the net illegally, and North Dakota held on the for win.
