River Bats Fall in Season Opener
06/02/2011 - 9:30 AM
The season did not start off on the right foot for the St. Cloud River Bats as they fell in the 2011 Northwoods League season opener to the Duluth Huskies by a score of 3-1.
It was a pitcher’s duel at Wade Stadium as Duluth starter Ben Hughes stymied the River Bats offense on the night as he pitched six innings while striking out eight batters. St. Cloud starter Andy Urban pitched 5.1 innings of no-hit ball but walked two batters and gave up two earned runs to get the loss.
St. Cloud State shortstop Travis Cariveau went 1-for-4 for the River Bats in the leadoff spot. Game two of the series is tonight at 7:05.
