SCSU Brings out Brooms against Beavers
02/01/2010 - 10:00 AM
It was a successful weekend for the Saint Cloud State women's hockey team as they picked up four crucial points by sweeping Bemidji State University and history was made as Caitlin Hogan broke the all-time scoring mark.
The big story of the weekend was senior forward Caitlin Hogan's pursuit of history. Going into game one against Bemidji, Hogan needed just one point to tie the all time scoring mark of 119 points. With four seconds left in the first period, Hogan took control of a loose puck in the slot and fired it past Beaver goalie Alana McElhinney. Hogan would finish game one sitting at the 119 mark and would have to wait till game two for the chance to break it. The score was tied 2-2 in the third period when first year forward Kylie Lane left a pass between the circles for a trailing Callie Dahl who put it past McElhinney to give the Huskies the lead 3-2. The goal was the first of Dahl's career at SCSU.
Game two saw back and forth action once again and also saw history made. Late in the first period Hogan would have the puck go off her skate and to fellow senior Meaghan Pezon. The Eden Prairie native reached the loose puck right between the circles and put in her 10th goal of the season to tie the score 1-1. Hogan was credited with the second assist on the play which gave her point number 120, putting her all alone at the top of the charts. The game would go to a shootout where Holly Roberts would score in the second round and junior goaltender Ashley Nixon stopped all three Beaver shooters to give SCSU the win. SCSU is now 11-11-6 overall and 8-10-4-3 in the WCHA.
