Men's Hockey Splits with #6 UND

The #15-ranked SCSU men's hockey team split a home series with #6 North Dakota this weekend. The Huskies lost 3-0 on Friday night then bounced back for a 5-2 win on Saturday night.

After being kept off the scoreboard Friday, the Huskies exploded for five goals in Saturday's drubbing. Senior captain Drew LeBlanc had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the charge, with Jonny Brodzinski, Garrett Milan and Jimmy Murray adding goals for SCSU. Joe Rehkamp had three assists in the game for the Huskies, a career high.

With the split St. Cloud State is now 6-4 overall and 4-2 in WCHA play. The men have the upcoming weekend off before heading to UMD November 23-24th.

Football Ends Regular Season With Win

The SCSU football team finished their 2012 season with a 39-37 win at the University of Minnesota-Moorhead. The Huskies finish the season with a record of 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC North.  

Junior Jack Moro broke the school record for interceptions in a season with a pair of picks, giving him 11 on the season. Senior quarterback Brad Meade combined with junior Phil Klaphake to throw for three touchdown passes in the win. 

SCSU head coach Scott Underwood earned his 40th career victory in the defeat of the Dragons.

Women's Hoops Underway This Week

The SCSU women's basketball team looks to build on a 13-13 season last year, beginning with their 2012-13 season opener at Valley City State University in North Dakota on Wednesday. 

Seniors Amanda Wagner, Nicole Anderson and Morgan Lof were named captains for this season's campaign.

Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Weekend Sweep

The SCSU volleyball team defeat both the University of Mary and Minot State University over the weekend to end the regular season on a four-match winning streak.

The Huskies defeated the University of Mary (25-17, 25-7, 25-22) on Friday night, then took down Minot State (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) on Saturday. SCSU finished the regular season at 10-18 overall and 6-14 in NSIC play.

The postseason begins on Friday night with the opponent TBD.

Husky Wrestling Earns Titles at Cyclone Open

SCSU senior wrestler Shamus O'Grady and redshirt freshman Clint Poster earned individual titles at the Cyclone Open in Ames, Iowa this weekend. The #2-ranked Huskies kicked off their 2012-13 campaign at the meet. 

O'Grady went 4-0 at 184 pounds over the weekend, culminating with a 11-6 win over Jeffrey Koepke of the University of Illinois. 

The Husky wrestlers are back on the mat Saturday at the Finn Grinaker Open in Moorhead, Minnesota.

KVSC to Cover Women's Hockey

The women’s hockey team opened up the home season last weekend with a pair of WCHA contests against Ohio State. The Buckeyes swept the Huskies with a score of 3-2 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday. The ladies will host Lindenwood University for a pair of games Friday and Saturday afternoon. The puck drops at 2:07 both days. The KVSC Sports Department will have coverage of both games on the Sports Stream.

Men's Hockey Hosts North Dakota

The men’s hockey team holds a place on the top of the WCHA this week after a pair of road games with Denver. St. Cloud State split the WCHA matchup with Denver over the weekend with a 3-0 win on Friday night before falling on Saturday 6-1. This weekend the #15 ranked Huskies are home for a pair of games with #6 North Dakota. KVSC will provide coverage on the air for both games. Friday’s coverage will begin at 7:15 with a 7:37 drop of the puck. Saturday coverage will begin at 6:45 and the puck will drop at 7:07.  Follow @KVSCHockey on Twitter for all SCSU hockey news.

Swim and Dive team Finds Success

Last weekend the Swim and Dive team participated in the Carlton Invite in Northfild, MN. The men’s team won 12 of the 16 events they participated in while the women’s squad won eight of 16. St. Cloud State swimmers set four pool records during the meet. Sophomore Kellyn Craig set the record for the 200 breaststroke she also took first place in the 400 yard IM and the 100 yard breaststroke. Craig’s stellar performance earned her the honor of NSIC swimmer of the week, she was also named the Wolters Kluwer Finacial Serives Athlete of the Month. St. Cloud State diver, Tori Raihle, also earned NSIC honors as the NSIC Diver of the week. Raihle won the one-meter dive with a score of 411 and qualified for the national meet. The Swim and Dive team will be in action again next weekend in Green Bay taking on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Volleyball Looks to Extend Win Streak

The St. Cloud State University volleyball team is looking to extend their two game win streak this weekend. The Huskies are home for a pair of matches Friday and Saturday to close out the regular season. The Huskies will take on the University of Mary Friday night before hosting Minot State University Saturday afternoon.

Football Travels to Moorhead

The St. Cloud State University football team crushed Minot State on the road last weekend by a score of 57-10. The Huskies offense earned 638 yards. The football team will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon on the road to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Volleyball Starts Win Streak

The SCSU Volleyball team has bounced back from a recent skid with back-to-back wins this weekend. The Huskies defeated the University of Minnesota-Crookston in straight sets on Thursday night and swept Bemidji State in a road contest Saturday.

The Huskies improve to 8-18 overall and 4-14 in NSIC play with the victories. 

SCSU has two regular season contests remaining, both at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies take on the University of Mary on Friday night at 7 PM before hosting Minot State on Saturday at 4 PM.

Huskies Fall In Exhibition at Michigan State

The Huskies travelled to East Lansing, Michigan to take on Tom Izzo's Spartans on Friday night. Michigan State defeated SCSU 62-49 in the exhibition. 

St. Cloud State hung tough with the Spartans through the first half, trailing just 21-20 with eight minutes left before the break and 33-26 at the half. 

Connor Niehaus led the Huskies with ten points on 4-6 shooting and seven rebounds. Theo Rothstein added 11 rebounds in the contest. 

SCSU guard Kevin Levandoski, the nephew of Izzo and whose family connection helped facilitate the game, was 1-6 from the floor with three points. 

The Husky men's hoops team is back in action on November 16th at St. John's in Collegeville, MN.

Women's Hockey Swept In Home Opener

The St. Cloud State women's hockey team was swept at the NHEC this weekend by #10 Ohio State. The Buckeyes posted a 3-2 victory on Friday and a 4-2 win on Saturday night.

The Huskies came back from a 2-0 deficit with a Molli Mott second period goal and an Ellie Sitek tally early in the third. However, OSU got the last laugh with a goal late in regulation to take the lead for good.

On Saturday the Huskies got goals from Alex Nelson and Audrey Hanmer as the teams exchanged goals through two periods, with SCSU holding a 2-1 lead after two periods. 

OSU scored the game's final three goals including an empty net goal late in the frame. 

St. Cloud State is now 2-7-1 overall. The team plays at home again this weekend with Lindenwood making their way to the NHEC. Drop of the puck is scheduled for 2:07 PM on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Football Blows Out Minot State

The Huskies added a bright spot to an otherwise disappointing season with a big 57-10 win at Minot State. SCSU junior QB Phil Klaphake led the way for SCSU, going 10-14 passing for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Klaphake also added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Huskies in the win.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jack Moro continued his amazing season on the Huskies backfield. The junior gobbled up two interceptions in the game, giving him a school-record ninth on the season. The Brookfield native now has 12 career interceptions.

SCSU is now 6-4 overall with one game left in the regular season, as the Huskies head to Minnesota State-Moorhead November 10th.

Men's Hockey Splits at Denver

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team maintained a share of first place with a WCHA road series split with Denver. The Huskies won 3-0 on Friday night before dropping game two 6-1 on Saturday.

SCSU got two goals from Nic Dowd in game one, giving him six on the season. Finnish Freshman Kalle Kossila also added his fourth goal of the season. Ryan Faragher made 28 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and third of his young career.

Saturday night it was all DU as the Pioneers snapped a 1-1 first period tie with five straight goals to bury the Huskies. Junior Cory Thorson was the lone SCSU goal scorer, notching his fourth goal at 5:01 of the first period. 

St. Cloud State is now 5-3 overall this season and 3-1 in WCHA play. The men's hockey team is back home this weekend for the last WCHA series against North Dakota.
