The St. Cloud State men's basketball team took a business-like approach to their trip to Florida and were rewarded with a pair of wins. The Huskies defeated Florida Southern 91-89 on Friday night, then blew out St. Joseph's College (IN) 71-52 on Saturday.
The Huskies were on the verge of defeat on Friday night after Florida Southern took the lead on a tip-in off an inbounds pass gave the Mocs an 89-88 lead with under a half-second remaining on the clock.
SCSU junior guard Kevin Levandoski nailed a half-court shot as time expired to give the Huskies an improbable win over nationally-ranked Florida Southern.
Saturday's contest provided no such drama as the Huskies coasted to a 19-point victory over the overmatched Pumas.
SCSU's Theo Rothstein matched his career high with 21 points in the game Friday, then established a new career best with 23 on Saturday.

The St. Cloud State women's hockey team was swept by Wisconsin over the weekend at the brand-new La Bahn Arena in Madison. The Huskies fell by a final of 6-0 on Friday, followed by a 6-3 margin on Saturday.
Wisconsin outshot SCSU 49-19 in the Friday contest, and the Badgers saw four players register multi-point nights.
The Huskies bounced back Saturday night with three goals and led the Badgers 3-1 at one point in the game. Wisconsin rattled off five straight goals, including four in the third period, to take the 6-3 win and the sweep.
SCSU is back in action at Lindenwood on Friday and Saturday.

The #12-ranked SCSU men's hockey team split a pair of games in Duluth over the weekend at AMSOIL Arena. The University of Minnesota-Duluth prevailed 2-1 on Friday night before the Huskies got revenge with a 5-1 win on Saturday.
St. Cloud State got off to a fast start Friday with freshman Kalle Kossila's early goal that gave SCSU a 1-0 lead. The Finnish frosh scored for the fifth time this season, assisted by Andrew Prochno and Jonny Brodzinski.
The Bulldogs scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period, then held off a late SCSU rally for the 2-1 win. The victory was UMD's first WCHA win of the season.
On Saturday the Huskies came out firing on all cylinders. Senior captain Ben Hanowski scored a power play goal halfway through the second period to give SCSU the early lead. Nic Dowd scored the eventual game-winner just four minutes later as the Huskies took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Kossila and Dowd each registered second period goals to make the score 4-1 after two periods of play. Cory Thorson finished the scoring for the Huskies in the third period. When the dust settled Hanowski (goal, two assists) and Dowd (two goals, assist) each had three points and sophomore goaltender Ryan Faragher had 32 saves to earn his sixth win of the season.
SCSU will make their last WCHA trip to Alaska this weekend to take on the Seawolves. KVSCHockey on Twitter will have updates of the game in progress.

The St. Cloud State men's swimming and diving team finished in first place, and the women in third at UW-Wisconsin this weekend.
The men's team was victorious with a final team score of 851. The Huskies beat UW-Green Bay who finished with 827 and UW-Whitewater who tallied 385.
The St. Cloud State women's team came in second with a final team score of 726. UW-Green Bay finished first with 904 and UW-Whitewater fell behind finishing with a score of 460.
Two pool records were broken by St. Cloud State performances this evening. The men's 200 medley relay squad consisting of Bob Simson, Napoleon Howell, Jake Stoll, and Jake Hausauer won the event in a time of 1:33.75.
Alex Bryson also broke a record in the 1650 yard freestyle.

The Huskies women's basketball team posted a 69-55 win over Jamestown College on Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Jessica Benson led the Huskies with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Sam Price nailed four three-pointers to finish with 17 points.
The Huskies head to Menomonie, Wisconsin on Tuesday to take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM.

SCSU softball coach Paula U'Ren has announced the signing of five high school softballers that have committed to play for the Huskies.
Abby Bunnell of Maple Grove, Minn., Alyssa Coletto of Aurora, Ill., Jessica Goerger of Mankato, Minn., Brie Hightshoe of Iowa City, Iowa and Megan Larkin of Roseburg, Ore., have all committed to St. Cloud State.

The SCSU men's basketball team posted a 67-48 win at St. John's Friday night to start their 2012-13 campaign on the right foot.
Theo Rothstein led the Huskies with 16 points in the win, while Shaun Jensen added 13 points and six assists.
The Huskies next head to Florida to take on Florida Southern and St. John's on Friday and Saturday.

The SCSU women's hockey team suffered a pair of defeats over the weekend against the University of Minnesota-Duluth in St Cloud. The Bulldogs posted a 4-1 win on Friday night before completing the sweep Saturday afternoon with an identical 4-1 victory.
Kalli Funk was the lone goal scorer in the Friday night loss, while Lisa Martinson registered SCSU's lone tally on Saturday.
The Huskies are now 4-9-1 overall this season and head to Madison this weekend for a matchup with the Badgers.

This week the St. Cloud State men’s hockey team moved up three places in the USCHO poll, the Huskies now sit in 12th place. After having the weekend off the team will travel to Minnesota-Duluth for a pair of games Friday and Saturday night. Minnesota Duluth is currently unranked and holds a 0-4-2 record in the WCHA and 2-6-2 overall. St. Cloud State is 4-2-0 in WCHA play and 6-4-0 overall. The KVSC Sports Department will provide coverage of both games this weekend on KVSC. Listen on Friday night at 7:15 for the pregame show, the puck will drop at 7:37. The #2-ranked SCSU wrestling squad performed well at the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open in Moorhead, MN this weekend.
Jay Hildreth earned second place at the Open with a 3-1 record at 141 lbs, while sophomore Eric Forde also captured a second place finish for SCSU competing at 125 lbs.
149-pounder Josh Howk and Clint Poster (157) each charted third place finishes for the Huskies.
SCSU will continue its season on Dec. 8 when the Huskies host the annual Holiday Inn/Husky Open in Halenbeck Hall. Action starts up at 9 a.m. and tickets may be purchased at the gate.

The St. Cloud State women’s hockey team (4-7-1 overall, 2-6-0 in WCHA), will be home again this weekend. The Huskies are coming off a sweep of Lindenwood University last weekend. Julia Gilbert and Julie Friend both earned WCHA Honors for their performance over the weekend. Gilbert is the Offensive player of the week after charting 3 goals and an assist during the series. Friend charted her second shutout of the season Friday with 21 saves earning her the title of Defensive player of the week.
This weekend the team will host WCHA opponent the University of Minnesota Duluth (3-6-1 overall, 2-5-1 in WCHA). Both games of the series can be heard on the KVSC Sports Stream with live coverage from the NHEC courtesy of Sports Director Gina Carlson. Tune in at 6:25 p.m. on Friday to listen to the Jeff Giesen show before the pregame at 6:50 the puck drops at 7:07. Saturday afternoon the puck will drop at 2:07 the pregame will begin at 1:50 with the Jeff Giesen show airing prior the start of coverage.

The St. Cloud State women's basketball team started off the season with a win on Wednesday night. SCSU won on the road against Valley State University 70-45. The Huskies had 17 turnovers and forced the Vikings into 28. Sam Price, Rachael Moen and Jessica Benson each had double digit points for SCSU. Benson lead the team in points with 17, she also led in rebounds and steals.
The team is back in action again on Saturday afternoon for their home opener. The Huskies will take on Jamestown College at Halenbeck Hall at 2 p.m.

Last weekend the SCSU football team wrapped up the 2012 season with a 39-37 win over University of Minnesota State-Moorhead. Sixteen members of the team earned honors as members of the NSIC All-Conference Team. Seven of those players were on the first team including seniors Andrew Beckman and Mark Martin. Other members of the first team include; Phillip Klaphake, Michael Walker, Eli Shoemaker, Jeff Bias and Jack Moro. St. Cloud State finished the 2012 season tied for fifth in the overall standings and third in the North Division. The team's final overall record was 7-4 and a 5-2 mark in the NSIC North.

The men’s basketball team gets the official 2012-2013 season underway this week. The team has one game under their belt, playing an exhibition game with Michigan State. The Huskies fell to the Spartans 49-62 on November 2, 2012. The official season starts Friday when Huskies head to nearby Collegeville to take on Saint John’s University.

The SCSU women's hockey team swept visiting Lindenwood University this weekend at the National Hockey and Event Center. The Huskies shut out the Lions 2-0 on Friday then won 7-2 on Saturday.
Huskies sophomore goaltender Julie Friend recorded the shutout between the pipes on Friday night with 21 saves. Julia Gilbert and Haylea Schmid registered goals in the win.
On Saturday the Huskies broke out for seven goals. Gilbert and Schmid continued their impressive weekends for SCSU on Saturday, with Gilbert notching a pair of goals and an assist and Schmid netting two goals. Molli Mott, Abby Ness and Ellie Sitek also scored in the win.
