Husky Men's Hoops Wins Sixth Straight

The SCSU men's basketball team swept a pair of games this weekend to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season. The Huskies defeated the BSU Beavers 68-60 on Friday night before taking down the University of Minnesota-Crookston 79-55 on Saturday at Halenbeck Hall.

Huskies point guard Shaun Jensen led the way for SCSU on Friday night with 21 points, while Theo Rothstein led the way for the Huskies on Saturday with 30 points.

Women's Hockey Earns Split With MSU

 The SCSU women's hockey team earned a split with rival Minnesota State-Mankato this weekend at the NHEC. The Huskies fell 2-1 on Friday before winning 5-2 on Saturday night. 

Molli Mott scored the Huskies only goal on Friday night, and it gave SCSU a 1-0 lead through two periods of play. MSU scored two goals in the third period to take the win from St Cloud State. 

The Huskies dominated the Mavericks on Saturday night, jumping out to a 3-0 lead through one period. Haylea Schmid tallied four points for SCSU with two goals and two assists to lead the charge, while Molli Mott and Alex Nelson also charted multi-point games.

Men's Hockey Splits With UNO

The SCSU men's hockey team split a pair of home games this weekend with Nebraska-Omaha. The Mavericks won 6-5 on Friday, with the Huskies getting revenge on Saturday with a 2-1 win.

St Cloud State forward David Morley's hat trick was not enough for the Huskies on Friday night as the team fell in a high-scoring contest. Fellow freshman Kalle Kossila had the Huskies other two goals in the loss.

Saturday's game came right down to the wire, with SCSU freshman Johnny Brodzinski tallying the game winner halfway through the third period. Ryan Faragher made 22 saves in the win. 

The Huskies are now 9-7 overall and 7-5 in WCHA play, good for fourth place behind Denver, Minnesota and Minnesota State, Mankato. 

Huskies Lady Ballers Remain Undefeated

The SCSU women's basketball team stayed undefeated at 7-0 with a pair of wins over the weekend. The Huskies stomped the Beavers 81-53 on Friday night, then snuck by the University of Minnesota-Crookston 64-54 on Saturday. 

Jessica Benson led the charge for the Huskies with 15 points and five steals on Friday, and Sam Price contributed 15 points as well. 

Saturday's game was highlighted by Price, who led the team with 18 points. 

The Huskies are on the road next weekend at Northern State on Friday and at Minnesota State-Moorhead on Saturday.

Moro Named All-American

Moro Named All-American

SCSU defensive back Jack Moro was named to the All-America Division II team for his efforts in 2012 on the football field.

Moro led Division Two football and set a Huskies record in 2012 with 11 interceptions.

KVSC will Broadcast Wrestling Duals

The SCSU Wrestling team will host the annual Husky Open on Saturday in Halenbeck Hall. The action will start at 9 a.m. Twelve teams will participate in this 42nd annual open.

Next week the team will host a dual with Concordia College on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7p.m in Halenbeck Hall. On Wednesday they will be travelling to St. John’s University for another dual, both duals can be heard on the KVSC Sports Stream. Saturday (Dec.15) a NSIC dual with Minot State University will also be broadcast on the Sports Stream. John Peterson will call all the action.

Women's Hockey Home for a Pair

The SCSU women’s hockey team will wrap up the first half of the season this weekend by hosting WCHA rival Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Huskies are entering the series with 2-10-0 WCHA record and a 6-11-1 overall record. The puck will drop Friday and Saturday afternoon at 2:07.

Men's Hockey Begins Home Stand

After a road split with Alaska Anchorage last weekend the SCSU men’s hockey team dropped to 17th in the USCHO poll. This weekend the team will be home for a pair of WCHA games with the red-hot Univerity of Nebraska-Omaha. Beginning a ten game home stand for the team. The Mavericks are currently ranked 14th and are one point behind the Huskies in the WCHA standings. Listen to both games of the series on KVSC. Friday’s coverage will begin at 7:15 with a 7:37 drop of the puck. Tune in for game two of the series Saturday night, the puck will drop at 7:07 with a 6:45 pregame. Swim and Dive Earns NSIC Honors

Two members of the SCSU Swim and Dive team have earned NSIC honors this week. Senior Stephanie Crandall is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference swimmer of the week after setting a new school record for the 100 butterfly at the Rochester invite with a time of 55.94, that the fastest in the NSIC and 6th fastest in the nation. Sophomore diver Tori Raihle is the diver of the week after placing first in both the one-meter and three-meter dives at the Rochester Invite. Both the men’s and women’s swim and dive took placed first overall at the Mid Season invite.

Husky Hoops Posts Sweep On KVSC

 The men's and women's Husky Hoops teams posted victories on Saturday night in a pair of games heard live on KVSC. The women's team started the day by defeating the Bulldogs 80-60 before the men took down UMD 97-68. 

Jessica Benson was stellar for the women's team in the win over UMD. The sophomore guard was 7-8 from the field and finished with 24 points. Junior Sam Price also had 24 points in the victory.

The women's team improved to 5-0 on the season with their first NSIC win of the year. 

The men's game was never close as Demarius Cruz' game-opening three pointer gave the Huskies a lead they would not relinquish. SCSU point guard Shaun Jensen led the Huskies with 11 points and 10 assists. 

The men are now 4-0 this season and 1-0 in NSIC play.

Women's Hockey Sweeps Lindenwood

The SCSU women's hockey team swept the Lindenwood Lions in a non-conference road series this weekend. The Huskies tamed the Lions 3-1 on Friday, then completed the sweep with a 3-2 win Saturday night.

Senior Alex Nelson scored a pair of goals on Friday and assisted on Haylea Schmid's goal to finish with three points. Julie Friend earned her third win of the season with 21 saves for the Huskies.

Vanessa Spataro and Molli Mott scored goals on Saturday's game, and Nelson broke a 2-2 tie with her third goal of the season late in the third period. 

The Huskies are now 6-11-1 overall and 2-10 in the WCHA. Next on the schedule is a home series with bitter rival Minnesota State-Mankato.

Men's Hockey Splits with Wolves

The SCSU men's hockey team split a pair of games in Anchorage, Alaska over the weekend. The Huskies staged a dramatic comeback in game one Friday to win 4-3 before falling by a 3-1 score on Saturday.

St. Cloud State trailed 3-0 on Friday night before rallying for the 4-3 overtime victory. Jimmy Murray scored a pair of goals in the win, including the overtime game-winner.

The Huskies came up short on Saturday night. Johnny Brodzinski was the lone goal scorer in the loss.

SCSU is now 8-6 overall and 6-4 in WCHA play. The Huskies are back home this weekend for a series with Nebraska-Omaha.  

Rothstein is NSIC Player of the Week, Team Nationally Ranked

Rothstein is NSIC Player of the Week, Team Nationally Ranked

The men’s basketball team is finding success in the first few games of the season. Last weekend the team earned a pair of wins when they traveled to Florida, taking on Florida Southern and St. Joseph’s College (IN).

Senior Theo Rothstein helped lead SCSU to the wins and was rewarded by the NSIC for his efforts. This week Rothstein has the honor of NSIC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior from St. Michael, MN is the leading scorer for the Huskies averaging 20 points per game.

The Huskies replaced Florida Southern in the Division 2 men’s basketball poll this week SCSU sits in 22nd place. The men’s team is 3-0 on the season and will play their first home game on Saturday. It’s a NSIC matchup with the UMD Bulldogs. Catch the action at 4 p.m. on KVSC 88.1 FM.

Women's Hoops Continues Win Streak

Tuesday night the St. Cloud State women’s basketball team proved their supremacy by taking down Grandview University 89-49 at Halenbeck Hall. Jessica Benson has notched double-digit point totals every game this season. Sam Price and Lexy Petermann also had double-digit totals on Tuesday night. The Huskies are now 4-0 overall on the season.

This Saturday the team will begin NSIC play at home with the University of Minnesota Duluth. You can listen to the game on 88.1 FM KVSC. Tip off is a 2 p.m it will be followed by the mens game at 4.

Faragher is WCHA Player of the Week

Last weekend the SCSU men’s hockey team split a pair of games with the UMD Bulldogs, loosing 2-1 on Friday before rebounding with a 5-1 win on Saturday.

Sophomore goaltender, Ryan Faragher, charted 59 saves on the weekend; giving up just two power play goals. His success earned him the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Faragher is currently fourth in the WCHA in goals against with 2.14 and third with a .927 save percentage.

The #14 ranked Huskies will make their final WCHA road trip to Alaska to take on Alaska Anchorage Friday and Saturday night. Follow the action @KVSCHockey on Twitter.
