SCSU’s soccer team is off to a perfect start. This team hit the road for a weekend tournament in Fayette, Iowa. The Huskies took on Southwest Baptist University and Maryville University in the Peacock Soccer Classic. SCSU was victories in both games by a score of 1-0.
Next up the Huskies will play in front of the home crowd when Northwest Missouri State comes to town on Friday.The game begins at 7 p.m. and can be heard on the KVSC Sports Stream. SCSU soccer will celebrate 20 years of Husky Soccer September 13-15th.

The Husky wrestling squad will celebrate the accomplishments of two outstanding SCSU athletes. On Saturday October 19th at 12:00 p.m. in the Huskies wrestling room there will be a banner ceremony to honor two 2013 seniors, Jacob Kahnke and Shamus O’Grady.
Two banners will be unveiled. One for O’Grady’s national championship and the other represents Kahnke’s achievement of four All-American honors. O'Grady won the 184-pound national title in 2013 at the NCAA Division II Championships. The championships took place in Birmingham, Ala., where Kahnke earned his fourth All-American certificate. Following the banner ceremony fans are invited to Howie's Sports Bar in St. Cloud for a social. Kahnke and O'Grady will both be on hand.
Though O'Grady has graduated he does still play a role on the Huskies wrestling team. He makes his debut this season as an assistant coach under head coach Steve Costanzo.

The captains of the 2013-2014 SCSU men’s hockey team have been announced. Seniors Kevin Gravel and Nic Dowd will serve as the co-captains this season. Junior, Nick Oliver will serve as the alternate captain.
Many new changes await the hockey team this season including a new conference, new tournament and the upgrades to the hockey facility. The men's hockey team will join a new conference the season, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). The Huskies will also play in a tournament that features Minnesota college hockey teams. The name for that tournament was announced earlier this week, it will be known as the North Star College Cup.
The Huskies are coming off a historic run last season after a first place finish in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference and a Frozen Four bid. SCSU will open up the season on October 11th with a non-conference matchup against Bemidji State. SCSU Cross Country head coach Eric Hannenberger along with seniors from the SCSU women's Cross Country team Kassie Vaness & Lauren Johnson visited the KVSC Studios for a look at the 2013 season. The 2013 season for the Husky Football team begins this Saturday on the road, against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University in a Northern Sun Battle. This will be the first test for the Huskies this season. SCSU compiled a 7-4 record last year and were picked to finish 4th in NSIC preseason coaches poll.
Becky McCabe and the SCSU Women’s soccer team are competing in the Peacock Soccer Classic in Fayette, Iowa this weekend. SCSU faces off against Southwest Baptist University on Thursday, and will see Maryville University on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. for both games.
The Volleyball team will travel down south to Springfield, Missouri this weekend for the Drury tournament. SCSU will line up against Drury University, Arkansas Tech, Union College and Lindenwood. All games are non-conference.

The KVSC Sports Department finished its tour of SCSU fall training camps with the SCSU Volleyball team. Volleyball training camp was the final stop of three camps attended by the KVSC Sports Department. KVSC took in all the sounds of camp during a recent practice and caught with players including Jr. Dani Donmeier, So. Brianne Stamer and Sr. Captain Ellie Dietzen. KVSC also sat down with head coach Michelle Blaeser and previewed the upcoming season. The St. Cloud State Volleyball team will start their season this weekend as they travel to Springfield, MO. for the Drury Tournament. SCSU will square off versus Drury University and Arkansas Tech on September 6th followed by Union College and Lindenwood on September 7th. Catch the Huskies at camp all week long on the KVSC Sports Stream at 6pm.

Drew LeBlanc, 2013 Hobey Baker Award winner and the former captain of the St. Cloud State University men’s hockey team will be in St. Cloud for a meet and greet. LeBlanc will sign autographs and take photos with fans at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Wednesday August 28 from 4-6 pm.
LeBlanc is the first player in SCSU history to win the Hobey Baker award, he was also a four-time All-Academic student and WCHA Scholar Athlete, a member of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I men's second team and he helped lead the Huskies to their first NCAA regional championship in 2013. He is currently a member of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.
This event happens at the same time as the Select-a-Seat event for fans looking to purchase season tickets for the 2013-2014 men’s hockey season.

The renovations to the hockey facility on the SCSU campus are just too obvious to miss at the bottom of Fifth Avenue. The Herb Brooks National Hockey Center boasts a brand new name, atrium entrance, a team store, new ticket windows, expanded suites seating and better team facilities. Check out the video from SCSU athletics to see some of the new features. The multi-million dollar face lift to the facility is happening in phases; this being the first of two.

The first game to be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center will happen Wednesday September 25 when the SCSU Women’s hockey team hosts the Japanese Olympic team. The game takes place at 7:07 and can be heard on the KVSC Sports Stream.
If you want to claim your seat for the upcoming Men’s Hockey season be sure to attend the Select-a-Seat event on Monday-Wednesday August 26-28 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Fans will have the opportunity from noon-6 p.m. to pick their season ticket seat for the upcoming 2013-2014 men’s hockey season. The St. Cloud State University women’s hockey program has announced the addition of an exhibition game to start the 2013-2014 season. The Huskies will host the Japanese Olympic Women’s hockey team on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 7:07pm. The game will be the first to be played in the newly renovated Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Team Japan is one of eight teams that will compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics. The Huskies will continue on in the 2013-2014 campaign later that weekend hosting a pair of exhibition games against the University of British Columbia. For a complete schedule click here.

Former St. Cloud State University basketball player, Mahmoud Abdelfattah, is returning to the team; this time as an assistant coach. Abdelfattah played for the Huskies during the 2009-2011 seasons. That includes the season that SCSU advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight (2010). His coaching experience includes a stint as a varsity assistant and sophomore head coach at Perspective Charter School in Chicago, Ill. Abdelfattah also coaches the 17-U AAU team, a position he has held since 2009.
Abdelfattah takes the place of Brett Putz who accepted an assistant coaching job at Wayne State College earlier this summer.

The popular color run craze is coming to St. Cloud, MN. The Color Blast 5K Run will be held at St. Cloud State University on Saturday, August 10. The running craze will come to campus and blast runners with color at four separate color zones throughout the run, ending with a dance party and color throw.
Registration for the run is now open but runner spots are limited. Volunteers are also needed for the run. To register to run or volunteer visit the Color Vibe webpage.

St. Cloud State University Husky wrestler, Caleb White, participated in the 2013 Pan America Junior Wrestling Championships in Santiago, Chili on July 13-14.

White opened the tournament with a win over Venezuela’s Moises Prez before falling to Brazil’s Ramilp Paz to earn the silver medal in the Greco Roman tournament. White wrestled in the 120 kg match of the freestyle tournament and earned the gold medal. He will return to wrestle with the Huskies as a junior in the fall after posting a 12-6 record in the 2012-2013 season.
