l_af845dc247af9048a9b70bd8053d8a96.jpg1.)    When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?

5 plus years, but who's counting?

2.)  What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?

Currently Morning Show Part 2, in the past I have had the pleasure of playing tunes to the late night audience during our Insomnia Heaven programming, and early morning folks for some morning show pt. 1 action...a jack of all trades, I've covered other shifts in the past, mostly for the joy of doing something different, challenging myself to be creative and to expand my own knowledge of KVSC's diverse programming.

3.) Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?

Must plays? Well personal favorites include : Architecture in Helsinki, She and Him, Devo, Peaches, Le Tigre, Sour Grapes, Kimya Dawson, The Moldy Peaches, They Might Be Giants, Black Box Recorder, Camera Obscura, Amanda Palmer, Stereototal, Teddy Bears, The Owls, and Duplex  amongst plenty of other odd tracks. I like to mix it up and throw in some weirdness from my personal vinyl collection, as well as with William Shatner, Wesley Willis, Witches Hat, Cat on the Keys, Patton Oswalt, Pee Wee Herman, Eyeball Skeleton and Bruce McCulloch.

4.) Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?

My involvement with KVSC is a fairly simple one, I love music, it gives me the opportunity to not only learn about new artists not heard anywhere else, but to experience a wide berth of music I either randomly pick, or find due to listener requests. When I say on the air, Request Please! It's not because I'm desperate for your love or attention, it's because I love hearing music that you the listener love to hear, it not only sets up a personal relationship between DJ and listener, it also educates me on whats out there, but what I may have missed. The community involvment, the live non robotic djs, the local news, the connections are all there, it's like amazing man! Wow! Great things and stuff!!!

5.) What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?

CD in my collection...

Right now I have a compilation CD put out by Mojo Magazine that was compiled by Tom Waits called Step Right Up! It includes a lot of great old time Jazz, Blues, Folk and Country including but not limited to Tennessee Ford, Hank Williams, Ray Charles, and Harry Belafonte.

6.) Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)?

Somewhat embarassing moment in Music,

Was at Spyhouse Coffee in Minneapolis and was introduced to a girl who was in a local band conversation went something like this... "what band are you in?"
"Zoo Animal"
"Shoe Animal?"
"No Zoo Animal"
"Hrm I don't know you guys, see I only really get in touch with the music my radio station has, have you ever sent a CD into our music department?"
"Actually we played on Monday Night Live..."
"Oh, okay, I don't know if we have your CD though"
"Actually we donated one to you, so yes you should have it"
And you know what? We did, and I played it! And it was good!
Other embarassing moment, as a kid I attended a Ton Loc and Milli Vanilli concert, not sure how I feel about that to this day.

7.) What are your hobbies and interests?

I like to read, favorite authors to date include Dave Eggers, A J Jacobs, Cormac McCarthy, Trinie Daltons Wide Eyed, and an assortment of Graphic Novels, I heart movies, independant films and bizarre and grotesque japanese horror. Collecting awful records, not so awful you can't listen to them, but so bad that you can't stop listening to them, as well as an assortment of other movies and media on tape that have been lost in the halls of time, best forgotten...by everyone but me. I come up with wacky ideas, personal projects all with the hope of making a stranger smile, creating magic from the mundane.

8.) When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?

Working, hiding out in Minneapolis, thrift stores, record shops, just being me, looking for the meaning of life in an existance that has undifined yet infinate purpose and meaning.

9.) If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?

If I could take the whole station KVSC would be one of my picks...I don't own an ipod old fogey that I am, Sustenance, my best friend, my glasses so I could read (no twilight zone endings here), and medicine...it's all about survival right...if this was a zombie apocolypse we'd be talking about, I'd load up on the true necessities, although...scavangers may try to take my sustenance and my medicine, or my best friend for sustenance, so yeah...I digress...final answer!

10.) What do you think is the future of radio?

Honestly my bright and cheery future of radio would be that everyone would play a variety of independant artists giving them the exposure that they hear, the reason that half the artists on "mainstream" radio are so popular is because they are jammed into the listening publics ears...that's all they've heard, occasionally bands such as the White Stripes amongst others have bridged that gap and have "made" it. But again only a couple of tracks are recognized because they were on "Napoleon Dynamite" or that "Juno" soundtrack. I believe the true future of REAL radio is going to come from that big scary thing called the internet. Lots of upstart stations out there trying to give true artists their due, warts and all. It's the face of independant and dare I say pirate radio that will be my future. I will hear, what I want to hear, and not what the top 40 hit stations demand me to listen to. VIVA LA KVSC!
