1.) When did you get involved with 88.1?
I've been a listener since 1989 and was fortunate enough to meet some of the volunteers through the 90's. Eventually, Mississippi Tim suggested I begin as a DJ for KVSC and the rest is a story still in the telling.
2.) What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?
Currently: Classic Rock Part 1 (playing all vinyl this summer 2010), Granite City Rock Cafe Part 1 for a couple of years, Free Form Friday for a couple of seasons, Diversions for a while, and Classic Rock for 3 years before Marty took over.
3.) Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?
Frank Zappa. Originally, my intention was to host an all-Zappa show once a week.
4.) Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?
The opportunity to play music on KVSC is like being able to drive someone's race car once a week...and to get to stand in the shadow of the KVSC music library is like being in a museum. Why wouldn't I want to do this?
5.) What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?
Right now my home stereo has the entire Ozric Tentacles library in it. All instrumental space music, jam music, and ethereal wandering. It's helped me finish many projects the last couple of years while playing on shuffle.
6.) Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful).
Disc Jockey- Early in my DJ days (1983), I was playing music for a wedding reception at the Air Force base in Tomah, Wisconsin. Not familiar with country music, I switched off Alabama's "Mountain Music" just before the big jam at the end. The entire dance floor, wedding party, and everyone else stopped dead in their tracks and began yelling at me and I didn't know why.
Concert- I went to see Hall & Oates on the "Family Man" tour. I have no excuses that make sense to me now.
7.) What are your hobbies and interest?
Reading novels and comic books (I mean "Graphic Novels"). Watching foreign films. Motorcycling. Canoeing. Cleaning litter boxes and feeding cats.
8.) When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?
Working, reading or watching movies in the GypsyCave.
9.) If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?
Five gold medal female gymnasts.
10.) What do you think is the future of radio?
Hopefully KVSC will be a part of whatever future radio has.
