1st Annual Statewide Police and Social Services Conference held by St. Cloud State University

This September 2016 installment of the Untold Stories of Central Minnesota tackles a difficult and delicate topic and presents a conversation about what St. Cloud State University is doing to help. The topic is that of “policing.”

Within the recent past, there have been numerous examples of what can happen when “policing” goes wrong; people die, and then there are protests, and then there are more arrests, and then the cycle begins again. This cycle can be interrupted, however, and that interruption could very well be found in the first annual Police and Social Services Conference hosted by St. Cloud State University.

Created by Dr. Sylvestor Amara Lamin from SCSU’s School of Health and Human Services, the first conference in Minnesota of its kind has attracted many police chiefs from around the state and will be covering a number of topics concerning the police, social services, and how they operate together.  Dr. Lamin is joined by Kyle Knudtson from the Center for Continuing Studies as they talk with Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack about this developing discussion within Minnesota law enforcement.
