The Untold Story of Ifrah Mansour's

Sometimes a performance needs a gripping title in order to convey not only content, but also the subtlety of emotional weight found within, and Ifrah Mansour’s “How to Have Fun in a Civil War” does just that. In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Producer Jeff Carmack talks with Ifrah Mansour, a Twin Cities Multimedia Performance Artist, about her one-woman play that was performed at SCSU’s Ritsche Auditorium on Friday, April 13, 2018

The story is presented through the eyes of a seven-year old girl with poetry, video, and puppetry, and mirrors Mansour’s experience of spending her childhood in a refugee camp. Her journey towards overcoming grief and connecting with others throughout Minnesota’s Somali community has spawned this wildly successful performance piece that even surprises Mansour herself.

“How to Have Fun in a Civil War” is a part of the Midnimo project, a partnership between the Cedar Cultural Center, the Paramount Centre for the Arts, Minnesota State University Mankato, St. Cloud State University, and Augsburg College.

This program is funded in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Grant.
