Mike C.
1. When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?
I began training at KVSC in August of 2000.
2. What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?
I currently host Diversions on Wednesdays. I have regularly hosted The Morning Show, Afternoon Progressive Rock Show, Insomnia Heaven, World Beat (Now Neighborhoods of the World), Newswatch, and Alt13/Crispy Bacon.
3. Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?
The artists I play tend to change from season to season. Lately each week or every other week I’ve been throwing Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Pavement, Subtle, Secret Chiefs 3, David Byrne, Depedro, Antibalas, Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, and the Meat Puppets into the mix.
4. Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?
KVSC puts out great programming. We offer a whole spectrum of opportunity for the numerous talents that are left out of mainstream radio. There are quite a few musicians that I’ve found through KVSC. We also provide alternative news programming that strives to keep the people informed on important issues, something very few media outlets provide. I stay involved with KVSC because I feel that I can offer a bit of respite to listeners with some wonderful artwork and insight.
5. What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?
T.V. on the Radio – Dear Science
6. Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)
Body Count at First Avenue
7. What are your hobbies and interest?
Healing the sick, hanging out with my girlfriend and her daughter, growing food, processing food, cooking food, talking about food, movies, music, books, carpentry, cycling, walking, hiking.
8. When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?
